Monkey News is the best, and people aren't hating on Songs of Phrase, but the Noise One that came before where it's like bin lids clanging together and a ghost goes Oooooh bing bang bong its stairway to heaven.
The hairdryer is a metaphor for the current of hot air generated by a furious blast of temper.

The noise one's truly awful, but I'd quite like to hate on Songs of Phrase too, to be honest. The "looking all of 21" thing wasn't really that funny, was it? Or any of the others. The only funny part is either the original stories from Karl they are referencing, or the way Ricky and Steve react to it - eg the "most convoluted, racist feature on British radio" bit. A string of mismatched words isn't really that great. Not everything Karl does has to be absolutely hilarious of course, and the worst feature is only a relative thing. They're still better than any of Chris Moyles' features or whatever. But I hate to sound like a knob - and I definitely will in saying this - but I wonder if you like Songs of Phrase and hate monkey news, if you're really into Karl that much? Monkey news is pretty much the epitomy of Karl's sense of humour and worldview, and songs of phrase could've been knocked together by almost anyone.

I don't think Monkey News is the epitome of anything Karl-related. It can even be a bit repetitive - he tells an impossible story and Ricky gets annoyed.

Besides, among others, "mars bar bar bar" and "that's because the Chinese look older" were genius.
If I was listening to me on the radio, I wouldn't be able to say, "oh, he's a...", ya know? And slag me off an' that, 'cause I don't know what I look like, and I quite like that.

I thought Songs of Phrase was a great feature, for one it was a rare moment that showed Karl's more talented side, it takes time and effort to find the right songs and edit them together in that way, which as a format does make for a genuinely made for a good competition. But it was just the extra twist of the "well known" phrases he used ("There's this hairy Chinese kid") and the replacing words he can't find in a song ("Maaaaaars bah bah bah") that made it really great.

Someone should make a forum username based on that one.

Is it me or is each post not understanding the previous one properly?

(I'm probably adding to that list with this post)

Why do people spell it "bah"? Surely it's Mars BAR bar bar, bar BARbara Ann

Well, I think the way it's sung sounds like "ba-ba-ba, ba-barbara ann", with not much emphasis on an "r" at the end of "ba", so it sounds more like "bah"

Wait, this is rubbish. Play a record.

the sound effect one is probably my least favorite, but "do we need 'em?" is really awful too.

Short lived, but I'm not the biggest fan of "Jukebox or Junkbox/Hit Parade or Shit Parade".

Glad they only tried it once. :)
