In a way I can empathise with Karl, I'd hate the constant pestering that comes with fame, I don't consider myself much of a people person, and I'd assume Karl is even less of a people person than I am. I imagine I'd want to tell people to fuck off if they kept hounding me for autographs and photos all the time.

Anyway, I wouldn't quit over it. You sound like you work in an industry where there are lots of people who could potentially act like that. To be honest bursting into tears on the tube because someone said, in a harsh tone, that they would sign something after the Q&A they were clearly nervous about and didn't like sounds a bit soft to me. Also, you were at a media event, as a member of the media you have to remember you're all there to do a job, not pester people for autographs, which from what other members said, you have quite a few already.

I feel sorry for Karl.

He was probably knackered and nervous so decided to sit on the stairs and put his head down. Then some nut comes over and calls his name, he ignores her hoping she'll go away but then she keeps pestering him, he raises his voice a bit. Now he's being judged on that single moment as some kind of monster.

He's human and genuine. I'd rather that than some media trained fake.
