When Ricky has to go out of the room on one of Karl's features and still wont let Karl finish the story, I just kinda wanted him to shut up.

Honestly nothing they say on the radio shows annoys me as I sort of take it all on as part of their banter
Gervais annoys me when he uses his blog just to moan about things because it makes me miss the days when he would just talk about Karl and what he was doing
but then its his opinions so thats fair enough and if I get offended by it then I shouldnt read it

But the Smerch haters are wrong.

It's already been mentioned, but Ricky constantly mentioning his atheism as though it makes him special. I cringe when he says something like "I..I'm an atheist" in one of the podcasts (REALLY? I HAD NO INCLINATION!). I don't believe in God myself, so I can only imagine how annoying and tiresome it must be for someone who does.

Karl being mean to Robin and not telling Steve about the voiceover work. I can't imagine Karl doing those things now though.

Ricky moaning on his blog (I've taken his advice and stopped reading).
Yeah, but would they report it?

yup. He's extraordinarily reactionary when it comes to this subject.

HumanityManatee wrote:Exactly. A lot of Steve's quips don't quite make sense either. Ricky's so much quicker and wittier in my opinion.

Yup. Can you imagine Steve coming up with anything as witty as Ricky in the 31.05.98 show? Check out the 'girl with the paper' bit from 24:00 - Ricky is quick as anything: "of course she was", "every night, she had two 'no's", "she had 30 goes","...with a human".

Calum TP wrote:he simply relies on fictional, badly told anecdotes.

pretty much. Never understood the love for his interminable anecdotes.

yeah the atheism thing winds me right up, i have no qualms about ricky not believing in God, but it's his patronising attitude to those who do, i think that he reckons that if you are intelligent, than you won't believe in God.

That's definitely the impression he gives, and it's quite arrogant and very annoying. We get it, you believe in science...shut the fuck up!

Ricky's gay jokes about Karl are getting pathetic in the latest shows - Karl chatting to the guy in yellow pants, the painkiller administered up the arse by a gay nurse, and Karl explaining his worry hole. The latter especially just pissed me off because Karl was really getting into something good and it was ruined.

On the Atheism tip,
I'm sure ricky said summit along the lines of "Any smart person will come to the logical conclusion that there is no god, and we are related to great apes." Basically stating that anyone who doesn't is an idiot.

Was this in an interview?

btw I would say anyone who denies evolution is an idiot, but most Christians know evolution is a fact.

Ricky's blog irritates the fuck outta me more times than not.
Also the more I listen to Steve the less I like him if I'm honest. I still think he's funny but the cringe factor outweighs the laughs.

Ricky once stated that any 'smart, reasonable' person would be an athiest when he's refering to Scientists, this is bollocks as many Scientists do belive in God and are much more inteligent than Ricky. This also shows a really bad personality flaw because it shows that he's not able to accept other people's opinions but instead constantly bashes them.

I hate it when Ricky says random shit in an attempt to try and sound clever enough so the other two don't contradict him; an example of this would be where he discribed a block color on a canvas as an 'attack on the senses' and that 'color is part of our evolution' utter bollocks and doesn't back up that his choice of art is any good.

That leads me onto when Ricky attacked Karl for saying that Lowery was his favourite artist a) it's his opinion b) Ricky would go fucking mental at Karl for contradicting him for his opinion, an example would be where Karl says another film is better than The Godfather. Although Karl did the same thing as Ricky, Ricky ends up looking like a hypocrite.

Ricky's constant interuption during the XFM shows, (and a little bit in the podcasts), when Karl tries to tell a story that will no doubt be brilliant and funny, but Ricky has to interject with his unfunny remarks towards the story with a little bit of shouting thrown in for good measure. Also, to tie in with that point; a couple of times Karl has refused to tell a story, i.e. Monkey News, Ricky then bullies Karl into telling the story and then goes mental at him when he does when he obviously knew what kind of shit was coming.

When Ricky tries to wriggle his way out of being proven wrong, a prime example would be Karl's lighthouse latteral thinking story. Also, Ricky states that he hates latteral thinking questions, but during the podcasts he tells his own latteral thinking question about Heaven and Hell. Although he tried to make out it only had one answer, he ended up fucking it up... twice... over two podcasts.

Last of all, this blog. Way back during the XFM shows he describes "weirdo's who write stuff on the Internet about themselves, 'here's my cat'", or something along those lines. A couple of years later and he does exactly the same thing! However, Ricky seems to go all out on bashing his collegues in comedy, such as his post about the BAFTAs and the random posts that slight his fans. I really do dislike that blog 90% of the time.

Steve annoys me how he only has 3 or 4 anecdotes and seems to recycle them a couple of times a year, then for some reason Ricky still laughs and acts like he's never heard them before. There was one Steve anecdote that had me in stitches however, the one about him on the beach with his nob out, anyway.

Steve also annoys me with how much of a backseat he's taken with the podcasts, sometimes we won't hear anything from him for five minutes, then he'll ask a question and wait another five minutes until Ricky has stopped screaming at Karl. It was however a releif to here him talk more than Karl during The Ricky Gervais Guide to The English, albiet with the latest incarnation of his 11 year old anecdotes.

This is a small point, but Stevey annoys me when we claims that he has no sucsess with the ladies even when it's clear he does, cue his ex-girlfriend, for example. The 'pathetic' Steve thing he seems to go with gets a little boring after a while.

Karl doesn't really annoy me? How can he? He's brillaint. If I had to choose one moment, it would be where he was incredibly rude to Robin and doesn't even try to cover it up. There was no need for it, at all. I suppose he annoyed me when he snapped back at Ricky with 'shut up' when Ricky was going on about how 'fucking lazy' Karl was, of course he had everyright to be annoyed, but he didn't exactly fight his corner that well. It seemed like he had given up.
Chinchilla: If I had you as a son I would obviously be devastated.
Marsy: Makes me so goddamn angry I want to squish him.
Dam Helder: You make Stevey look like ScottHanson.
ScottHanson: Great hair, great lad.

when karl says that derren brown uses a similar technique with his tricks to hitler, and ricky instantly says "play a record".

whenever ricky elaborates on his liking for a record, perhaps cos i dont like a lot of what he plays

when steve brownnoses ricky, like when ricky walks out of the studio after the infinite monkey debate and steve joins him (him shouting "Cheers!" at the end particularly irritates me).
I could be wrong about this one, and i'm a bit vague about it, but i remember something karl told them, that turned out to be right, and i seem to remember steve shouting at karl right after ricky does (someone may know the instance i'm talking about).

when steve hits karl after he insulted his looks. stirkes me as extremely juvenile, and shows that steve can dish out the abuse but cant take it.

karl never annoys me.
Everyone is saying "Gabbo this" and "Gabbo that". But no one is saying "Worship this" and "Jericho that"!

I think he describes why he likes the piece of art (Rothko, I presume) quite well. It's not like Karl justifies his love of Lowry any better.

So you don't like Monkey News? What makes Karl's stories so entertaining isn't the fact he believes it, it's the way Ricky gets so wound up by them, and how predictable each 'twist' is.

edit: Ricky doesn't get annoyed with Karl for not liking the Godfather - he in fact points out that there's no such thing as definite 'better'ness: "I didn't know there was a right answer".

Rockbusters annoyed me, to be honest. They were good when they worked, but then you get the Buy On Ferry's.

Monkey News was good. I actually think karl meant it ironically a little bit. I do think he milks the "I'm stupid," thing a bit. It is what his career is built on, after all.
