Did Kellerton Road do enough songs for them to get the nod?

Steve: No Elvis, it's a good idea, I'm just wondering if there's maybe something a little bit more glamorous for your fake death, I mean maybe you could take a bullet for the president?
Ricky: Huh, what and shit all over him? Just shit myself?

Heh, didn't think of featured music (in that way) as an idea. Have another thing planned. Hopefully one that doesn't mean having to listen to that damn Ween song!

4 people voted in the end (thanks all), and as a result our favourite track by M.I.A. is...

Come Around, nominated by ScottHanson

The full breakdown of the voting (number of 1st place/2nd place/3rd place votes in brackets)

1. Come Around (ScottHanson) 6 (2/0/0)
2. Bad Girls (StopWhinging) 5 (1/1/0)
3. Bucky Done Gun (cliveanders) 4 (1/0/1)
4. Galang (StopWhinging) 4 (0/2/0)
5. Paper Planes (Calum) 3 (0/0/3)
6. Sunshowers (cliveanders) 2 (0/1/0)
7. Meds And Feds (boy thorn side) 0 (0/0/0)

ScottHanson, please have a think of which artist to go with next time and let me know here - you've got a little while to think about it though as I've got a special week planned next. Please try and pick someone with a Youtube presence. If you can't think of someone then pass the option on to the next person down the line.

But as I say, I want to do a special round next (like I did for Xmas) to honour the Pilkipedia 10th anniversary. Since this a Pilkington site I thought I'd do something Karl would like - and he was always partial to a Song With A Story. So we can try that. With the whole world of music available it should be a good one for anyone to enter. I'll include all the tracks Karl put forward on the XFM show as automatics (culled from the Wiki) along with of course The Killing Of Georgie. I expect a lot of stuff featured on the "Songs with a story" thread may well turn up.

Nominations open for best Song With A Story.

So that's any track that you feel tells a story (feel free to add a short description of the story if you like). The following are added as automatic Karl-chosen entries:-

"Living For The City" by Stevie Wonder
"24 Hours From Tulsa" by Gene Pitney
"Lola" by The Kinks
"Babooshka" by Kate Bush
"Pinball Wizard" by The Who
"Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton
"Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town" by Kenny Rogers
"The Killing Of Georgie" by Rod Stewart

Associated YouTube vids (hidden so I don't swamp the thread!)

I've put forward Kate Rusby and Sisters Of Mercy tracks in the other thread but didn't want to do them again, and while I considered a few Genesis tracks this time (The Lady Lies, The Fountain Of Salmacis, The Return Of The Giant Hogweed) there was only really one choice.

So let's see if anyone fancies listening to the 17 minute plus masterpiece that is "Grendel" by Marillion. A partial re-telling of the Old English epic poem but seen from the point of view of the monster Grendel as he stalks the Geats. Not just the best song with a story but one of my most-liked tracks full stop. And it contains my favourite utterance of a word in a song (malign!).

*Edit

Seeing as I couldn't find a video for my number one choice, I'm changing for my number two.

Billy Joel - Piano Man

I love this song. It reminds of my mum when she's had a few too many and puts it on at a reckless volume and becomes a sort of ironic realisation of the song.

I nominated this for Bruce as well I think, but it's one of my favourite songs (and has a story).

Craig Finn is the best storyteller and writer music has ever had, but The Hold Steady's best stories tend to span over numerous albums rather than being self contained in single songs, so the other songs i wanted to pick ahead of this seemed like chapters of a story rather than the whole thing. That didn't sit right with me.

So this is still great, just a bit simple narratively.

Fuck i love them.
people with leukaemia are just like everyone else. meaning, they can't do what i do.
