The Great Pilkipedia FAQ

Postby Gtpod » Fri 08 Aug, 2008 1:50 pm

It's come to the attention of not only most of the old-timer members of these forums, but also more recent Pilkipedians, that certain questions keep popping up in the RSK forum. Ambiguities in the Xfm shows, unanswered questions, and general curiosity of the trio raise the same issues with newer members every few weeks. So, in order to prevent these topics further grating the ears of us veterans, here's an FAQ containing the most popular inquisitions; I'm aware there are introductory guides and such around, but this more specifically concerns answering the recycled questions.

What's the name of the street Steve used to live on?
It's Gay's Road.

What does Suzanne look like?
No one knows. This might be her, but we're not sure. She's clearly staying out of the limelight for a reason, so we're not pushing for a photo, however interested we may be; it is, again, stalkerish.

Is Karl a millionaire?
He's done various paid productions with RSK, the money from the third series of podcasts all went to Karl (after expenses), he's a regular on The Culture Show, he has two bestselling books and three houses. However much he whines about paying for a boiler, he is living very comfortably indeed, almost certainly up in the millions.

Is Karl an actor?
No, and we don't take very kindly to such accusations, this being a fansite dedicated to him. You've found a section where he repeats himself? You've heard him tell a proper joke? You're surprised he's written a book? Well done, what you've discovered is a human being, not an actor. As Ricky said himself, if they'd created the character of Pilkers, do you think they'd have announced it on a tinpot radio station like Xfm?

Ricky thinks he's so clever, but he keeps getting things wrong!
This too is a phenomenon called 'being human'. Symptoms are: not being 100% right all of the time, presenting guesses as fact, and claiming to know more about a subject than you do. We all do it, it's just he took the risk a step further and did it on air. If you want to point out some inaccuracy of any of the boys, do it here.

Is Karl only funny because Ricky laughs at him?
Watch the Three Minute Wonders, watch him on the Culture Show, read Happyslapped, and find out for yourself.

Can I have a download link for the Xfm Shows/podcasts/DVD extras?
No, it's illegal. All the podcasts are now on sale and so cannot be given out freely. Similarly at the behest of Capital Radio, the Xfm Shows are also no longer available to download freely from the site. However, videos, interviews and all other free RSK content, are available for download here.

Hey, I've found this RSK clip/information, have you seen it before?
Probably yes. We're die hard fanatics here on Pilkipedia, spending our lives trawling the interweb for every scrap of info we can come across. That said, we will miss things occasionally, so if you have something you wish to share, run this quick test: look at the topics already posted in the forum. Page 1 may be enough, though we'd certainly appreciate a glance at page 2 as well. If your tidbit's already there, do not post it again. If not, please do.

What show was x/y/z in?
We'll most certainly be able to help, but first, search the wiki for the keywords you can remember and see if it returns you a transcript (for example, this search for "pudsey eye" has returned a dated transcript). If not, please ask your question in this topic.

How do we contact the boys?
To be honest, we're not sure. The email link used to be podcast@rickygervais.com, however we don't know if this will be the same for the upcoming final series. If you have some serious question or other, contact Ricky + Steve through their agent, and Karl through his.

Do you have the two Make Ricky Gervais laugh pictures?
Yes we do. The woman described as 'every boy's fantasy', and the one with Michael Stipe.

I found someone with the surname Pilkington, is he related to Karl?
No, almost certainly not. Unless you can find a Mark Pilkington, born in Manchester, bald fella, born in around 1962 with a younger brother and sister, we're not interested; lots of people share surnames. Lionel and Tony aren't related, neither are Karl and Baron Pilkington of Oxenford.

Does Karl say 'old cold' or 'hold cold'?
The line is, "they sort of hold cold." Karl's manc accent makes it "they sort of 'old cold." He may be an idiot, but he is quite good at English, and certainly wouldn't say "they sort of old cold." If you disagree, read a grammar book.

Has Steve ever told his father's shed story?
Not on air, but Pilkipediennes (and die hard Steve fans) HannahJade and Binda did hear the story from Smerch in one of their many encounters with the lanky goggle-eyed freak after a stand up gig. It involves Steve's father stockpiling supplies in the shed in case of nuclear war.

Didn't Ricky and Steve realise that Caron Keating, daughter of Gloria Hunniford, was ill at the time of their ridiculing?
Nope, they didn't. It was a very awkward coincidence. They mocked Hunniford's worry of not having heard from Keating for a long time, unaware that this worry was justified in that her daughter had been away receiving breast cancer treatment.

Do we have the hand-drawn illustration of the boys as Flanimals, as mentioned in Xfm Series 4?
We do indeed.

Hey, I found a great Monkeynews story! Where do I post it?
Please post it in the Karl, Steve and Ricky board. If you post it anywhere else, it will be moved without warning.

We'll keep the topic updated as time goes on, adding in more questions as they pop up over and over on the forums. If you can think of one, post it in here and we'll slap it in. If you still have a question you'd like to ask of us, this lovely topic here should sort you right out.

That was my first thought too.

But other than that, it's great Pod. You can have two gold stars. ☆☆

Yeah I was aware of the wiki FAQ, but it's not linked to on the forums, and it's quite fractured to just throw a link to the wiki in. Just thought it'd be better to have a more centralised, forum-topic-for-forum-issues sort of FAQ.

Gay's Road thing's been edited, I didn't know we were saying it these days, last I heard it was banned.

Good work Pod, I was gonna expand the FAQ on the wiki (but I didn't cos I'm lazy), but maybe we could add all of these to it and keep one on the wiki and the forum.

This isn't a restriction; it works out as good, if not better, for the new members as it does us old-timers. If someone posts a topic with any one of these questions, what will follow is pages of derision and mocking, from myself included.

With the search function pretty much broken, people have no idea how many times these questions have been asked over the years heh. Better for everyone that they're just block-answered, was my thinking.

I realise me writing this defies the whole point of the topic but I was looking for funny street names in Bristol a while back and found a place called 'Badger's Crutch'. I always assumed they were talking about that so you live and learn, eh?

P.S. Shouldn't 'we' make this sticky? However one would do such a thing...

Quick question, how was it found out what Steves old street address was? because he never told it on air atleast. Did he maybe say it in an interview somewhere or was it just a stalker?
