Nah, Oasis.
Lacking in ability to find comic surrealism or absurdity in the mundane, with weak and forced observations. Covers taboo topics however like using the word Spastic, a child licking her vagina and using the swear word 'Cunt'. Ricky Gervais would be a fan.

You clearly haven't heard any Dream Theater. NOTHING is unnecessary with Dream Theater. Also one of my favorite bands.

I play guitar a lot, in a few on/off bands, my main ones called 'Blood Orchestra' though (we're a tongue-in-cheek progressive power metal band, check out our song 'The Wrath of Ra'), which is great fun. :D I'm waiting on my new guitar, which has set me back a large amount of money, and is the signature model of the guitarist from Dream Theater. Can't wait for it to arrive. :)

That's because EVERYTHING is unnecessary with Dream Theater.

Either do it to excess or not at all.

I would prefer if they did nothing at all.

Mike Portnoy is an excellent drummer. His kits are pointlessly oversized but if you can afford to pay people to roadie them around for you then why the hell not?

It's no more pointlessly extravagant than guitarists who play double-necked guitars and stuff.

Yep I play the guitar really badly. But I enjoy it.

I think I've posted pics of them before in another thread?

Again though, double necked guitars often have one neck as a 6-string and on as a 12-string, and usually are only used in songs which require it.

To be fair though, you can just switch guitars, whereas you can't me messing about with your drum setup mid-gig.

You can't switch guitars in the middle of a song, though. Often guitarists will use one neck for most of a song but switch to the second for a solo. You can't switch guitars that quickly.

Huge kits are mostly pointless, though. For example: Ringo Starr > Mike Portnoy everytime, even with the most simple drum set-up possible.

That's not what I meant, I should have worded it better. I'm not discrediting the need for double-necked guitars. If you need the double-necked guitar for a song, you can change to it before you start. You can't realistically do that with drums. You say it's pointless, but they wouldn't have all those drums if they weren't needed during the gig. More drums doesn't mean better songs, I agree, but you can't say it's pointless.

Pointless! :P

Nah, it's just my opinion. I mean, Dream Theater came up and that's the type of music I just can't stand; progressive or technical death metal. I love metal, but a band just showing off how good they are technically for 8 minutes at a time does nothing for me and shouldn't even be considered music, in my opinion. They're not songs, they're just pointless displays of ability. Which are fine when not in the context of a song, i.e, I'll listen to a drum solo where the guy shows off his ability, but I don't want that in a song. Does that make any sense?

I reckon a basic drum set-up should be more than enough for 90% of songs, and I'm just from the philosophy of 'less is more', I guess.

Yeah, I know what you mean about just showing off. But I'm sure there are advantages to having an extensive kit other than that, but obviously it all comes down to who's playing it.

I've never heard of Dream Theater apart from on here, so maybe I'm not informed enough to be talking about it, lol.
