Brief Reviews of Albums You've Listened To Recently...

Jamie T. - Kings and Queens (2009)

Great catchy sing-along anthems (Chaka Demus, Sticks N' Stones, 368), with variences from quick raps to more melodic touches as shown in Emily's Heart. This album is great.
8/10

Ian Brown - My Way

People keep banging on about a Stone Roses reunion, but forget potentially tarnishing their legacy, the reason why they should never reform is because Ian Brown's solo stuff is brilliant. This is no different, some good melodies and hip-hop beats and that. His last two albums have been excellent, he gets better and better with age.
"He was probably taking more sort of, uh, performance enhancing drugs. As opposed to him just like, scoring some shit around the corner from someone, getting off his tits and jumping in a toboggan."

Not sure what was wrong with my "Album" thread...

Anyhoo, just gave the new KISS album a first listen;
Image

It's their first studio album in 11 years, after 1998's "Psycho Circus". I was never really a big fan of KISS until I saw them headline Download Festival last year and they were amazing, they're one of these bands you can't really judge until you've seen 'em because they are so much better live, it gave me a new found respect for them.
Anyhoo, really liked this new album, it's a proper return to form and sound like it could've fitted nicely anywhere in between their albums from the 70s/80s.

Don't really need to buy a CD to listen to an album

That's more a gossip thread, before albums are released, hype, hopes etc.
This one is what it actually turned out like.

Green Day - Dookie

Image

I've been meaning to buy this album since I was about 13 years old, but never got round to it until recently. It is a fantastic classic pop punk album. It turns out the album tracks are every bit as good as the singles which I have been listening to for years. Simple honest no nonsense catchy pop punk. I love it.

Ah, I remember when I used to listen to that album, back in the days when Green Day were still good.

Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue (2009)
Image
This could have been a disaster. A Chinese Democracy style disaster. But, thank god, it is not. The grinding riffs, the sweet melodys, the anguish and suffering remain. The band that inspired a whole sub genre are back. Sure the Staley factor is gone, the addition of DuVall could be seen as a direct replacement, but given how understated his involvement is, you could hardly call him the lead singer. Bangers like the monster A Looking In View and Last of My Kind play in great contrast to more gentle pieces like the title track and Your Decision and the Down In A Hole esque Private Hell.

Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor

I kinda breezed past this on original listenings, and always favoured the sophomore effort "The Cool" but after giving this more of a listen, I've realised just how fantastic it is. A combination of refreshing subject matter, amazing beats and a cool flow make this a modern classic for me.

Dream Theater - Black Clouds and Silver Linings. (2009)
Image
Just listening to Dream Theater's most recent album, I'm loving it more every time I listen to it. It's got a good balance of heavy and lighter tracks.
It's definitely my favourite album by them since 2003's "Train of Thought" (which is still my personal favourite album by DT, and the one that made them one of my favourite bands..)
The version I got also included 2 extra CDs, one of cover versions, and another of "Instrumental mixes" of the songs from the main album, which is an interesting addition.

Rammstein - Liebe Ist Fur Alla Da.
Image

Bit meh.
5/10

Obviously most of the songs are in German, the one exception is "Pussy" which has lyrics including;
"You have a pussy.
I have a dicka.
So what's the problem?
Let's do it quick."
The video's worth a watch: http://visit-x.net/rammstein
It's definitely NSFW!!! though.
