Nah. He's done better. Needs his material to be cowritten with himself and Steve.

gtpod: It's like Ricky said about Steve, you just command much more respect.

Saw some clips there on ITV. Came off like an over-the-hill try-hard with his rehab jokes.

Not that it makes any difference but the IMDb poll for today is: Which was the most memorable moment of this year's Golden Globes telecast?

Ricky Gervais's acerbic jokes, which got rolling with swipes at Charlie Sheen ("It's going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast!") and when he introduced Bruce Willis as Ashton Kutcher's dad.

is coming second behind:

My favorite moment was when I changed the channel.

Just feel like it perhaps wasn't as badly received as people here are claiming. But maybe he was. Meh, it's just IMDb, I guess.
How's the environment going? Well, can we clean it up a bit?!?

He made me laugh. Some people expect too much and some stupid american showbiz reporters are moronic when they constantly hype up Gervais upping the stakes then complain when he actually does it.

Monologue was okay IMO.

Hopefully his other clips go online eventually.

What did Bale say to De Niro?

It was something they had to cut the audio for so i assume it was something like "I fucking love him".

Anyway, yeah i think Gervais is done with the globes (by his choice). So might as well go for it.

Just think it was largely unfunny.

The Sandra Bullock (or whoever he said 'hated the poor' ) bit was so meh.

searching round for clips this morning....all funny i thought.....

gervais has been mr lovey dovey with usa celeb culture like he was when he first got famous in britian...now he's big enough out there to get complacent with his status and start hitting out at them like he's done here for aaages....he did seem to really go for it more this year

good....i like him when he is genuinely shouting from the outside at stuff.....i diddnt see all his bits but they seemed unimaginably superior to his last stand up show....maybe he can come back and be a good standup again after all
ive finally got round to changing my signature...

I thought Ricky was ok. I am tired of him deliberately trying to be shocking and nasty. It is boring, he does it at every awards ceremony now.

I think that the British and Australian actors will get his sense of humour but I don't think that most of the Americans will or will be more easily offended. But then again he probably sucks up to them all at the after party and tells them he loves their work and sorry about the jokes.

What about when the HFP president said "Ricky, next time you want me to help you qualify your movie, go to another guy.' lol
R:What would you do if you were swimming around right, and there was this octopus there and it starts spitting poison at you?
K: Well....I'd kick it an' call it a knobhead...

Ricky Gervais as Golden Globe Host

Postby Matt90 » Mon 17 Jan, 2011 1:27 pm

Just watched the globes, not for the awards ceremony. But for Rick, reviewers and critics have been saying his gags were to much, especially about homosexuals and Scientology. Personally I felt he was very very good at hosting the ceremony, the jokes were funny and the dig about scientology was very toungue in cheek. Was it to much or just Americans taking everything so serious?
Steve

I'm going to e-mail Richard and tell him I agree.

Ricky Gervais is Ricky Gervais, take him or leave him. Personally he was brilliant, top notch. I felt its americans not getting his humour and not understanding intellictual British Humour, the dig on scientology was hilarious. The people who book hosts know what he is like, so what did they expect?
