I brought up the film studies thing because Wetknee said he'd done film studies too. I was just adding to the discussion. Which is what this is, a discussion. No-one's trying to win here, we're exchanging thoughts on a subject, with no obvious goal at the end. Nothing I say is going to change anyones mind, I know that, so does everyone else. Same goes for the other users on this forum, but there's nothing wrong with havin' a chat.

Yeesh!

I brought up film studies because you suggested I hadnt seen many films. I've seen loads of shit films, Invention of Lying is just one of those.

With regards to Film Studies...I think Anti Nora might be thinking it's worth more than it is. I did it as I had an interest in film, but it was the easiest lesson ever..and really there isnt much important to learn. Im sure most film directors dont have a fucking clue about some of the shite that goes on in things like a film studies lesson, nor do they need to.

I did a film course myself and while it is worth shite all in the real world I would take the opinion of someone who studied it more seriously over some casual cinema goer. That's not to say you have to do a course to understand or critique film.

I know a guy who said Pulp Fiction was shit and confusing. His opinion isn't valid because he's stupid. That's my point on opinions, everyone's got one but that doesn't mean they have to be taken seriously.

Killin my buzz here guys, killin my buzz.

Film Studies isn't a hard course no, but it's an interesting one. It doesn't apply to anything in the real world in terms of a qualification for a proper job, which is why I'm doing a film and television course, which incorperates film studies with practical stuff like writing for film and tv, filming on location, in a studio, etc, and, in the case of my course, giving us work placements in the media industry so we know who to go to for a job when we're done.

wetknee, you need to stop getting so worked up man, you're gonna hurt yourself.

What if someone had studied film studies then said Pulp Fiction wasnt very good? Would your head explode?

Seriously though..the opinion of a film studies student, when it comes to whether or not a film is actually good or bad is worth no more than most opinions. They might be able to tell you a bit about Propps Theory or whatever..but it doesnt mean they know any better about whether a film is good or not. They might just be more pretentious when they give you their opnion.

Also..chimpy. I dont know at what point you thought I was getting worked up, but I really havent been. The only strong reaction so far has been from you, when I said the film was terrible..

My god man, it's an internet forum, I'm 20 years old, I'm very very bored at the moment, my night is free, I am having a laugh. If I was being serious, I wouldn't add the cheeky wink at the end.

Come on man, I'm not being majorly serious here, we're having a conversation about film studies and The Invention Of Lying of all things, I assumed we were just messing about.

I studied film and media, the big worthless double. Invention Of Lying was just nothing, not any worse than Disaster Movie but very near close in that I would never watch either of them again.
Done.

Apologies, I thought you were just being a mong again.

I forget, what did Stephen Merchant study at University?

What was it now?

It's on the tip of my tongue, I just know it.

Oh yeah....

Look, it's a worthless course if you do fuck all towards it. Like I said, there is a production placement scheme on this course I'm doing that means we're getting links to the right people. Plus, it means I can start my own production company if I so choose to film things like weddings or events for people. Easy money.

The placement and work experience are the only worthwhile part of any media course and you can apply for them without getting yourself into debt up to the eyeballs.

Did he attempt to do anything with his degree? Honestly?

The entertainment industry exists, and it's hardly like they're never going to hire anyone ever again. It can happen, you just have to make it happen.

Besides which, I'm thoroughly enjoying my course. I know some great people, I get to film and write, which are my two favourite things and I get to write in depth about films I love.

Btw, hate to be a buzzkill (although you guys obviously love it), but I just realised that we derailed this thread completely. I mean, I guess it was mainly my fault, hang on.

*goes to check earlier in the thread*

Yeah, yep, it was my fault.

Sorry lads.

And ladettes.

I did film studies at college as well, was great fun, get to watch a movie every week on their big cinema screen whilst simultaneously doing no work. Did everyone do film studies at some point in their life?

He worked as a runner on Deal Or No Deal and at Endomol for a bit but as soon as the next years group of media graduates came through they were all let go. It's smart really, hire media students who will do anything for experience then trade up before you've got to pay em.
How have we wandered so far of the fucking point of this thread here, films studies, not unenjoyable, not worth the paper they're printed on for 99% of people.
Right back to mongs.
