I don't think he meant it literally. But it's nice that someone who was told they'd never amount to much, has.

There's something very sweet and ominous about the ending of the first show. The lighthearted, genuinely funny banter, followed by an Aimee Mann song means that it comes off as 10 times as nostalgic than I expected. It's sort of like a lovely call back to when Ricky was funny and less annoying.

Then Karl gets them both presents doesn't he? Which is a very nice moment. Can imagine Karl actually going into town and looking for meaningful presents for them.

Edit: Oh you're on about end of the first episode.

I prefer series two, but the blossoming of Karl - the way he tells ancedotes and giggles in the background - is wonderful to hear. There are so many perfect moments captured.

I have a question that I'm hoping might be able to answer. The 17th November 2001 show; near the end of it Ricky mentions that they played True Love Waits by Radiohead. Now as a massive Radiohead fan, I'm curious since this song was only officially released as part of a small selection of live recordings (never part of a "real" album), so i'm wondering if they really did play the live version from the mini album? Wikipedia tells me the mini album it comes from (I Might Be Wrong: Live recordings) was released 5 days before this show, so it is entirely possible they played that version. But if anyone remembers that show, or has managed to obtain a full recording of that show (and I guess can tell if the version they played was from a very specific Radiohead album :x) then I'd love to know
Alright?

I think it's more important to discuss the ironic comments about The Fall on the very first episode. One of the best bands mentioned on the shows.

Thanks for the info on Rule 1 and illegal sharing of XFM shows.

Now back to my question. I don't have the ability to repost my question from my phone but I'll do my best to paraphrase.

I'm wanting to know where I can spend my own hard-earned money to legally buy the early (2001-2003) XFM shows. Maybe I'm reading audible's listing wrong but it looks like their series 1 is not the same as the series 1 to which this thread refers.

If anyone can direct me to a legal vendor I would appreciate it.
Thanks

You can only buy the compilations Xfm have released. The shows in their entirely aren't available to buy.

In the final episode of XFM Season 1 on May 4, 2002 (http://www.pilkipedia.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=04_May_2002/Transcript), Karl starts telling the story about the time he and Suzanne stayed in a "ropey hotel" that was run by midgets. He never gets to the end of the anecdote though, as the time for the episode runs out. Does anyone know if this story has been told to its conclusion anywhere else?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this story comes back up in the first series of the podcasts? Anyone verify?

I just actually found more about the story in the November 23, 2002 XFM epdisode; Karl mentions the story about the hotel in Turkey, which had a kitchen employing only midgets:

Karl: "There was loads of 'em running around, busy."
Ricky: "WHY THOUGH?"
Karl [annoyed]: "Because it was summer!"
