I think he'll improve the routine and try harder for the show that is being recorded for the DVD.
Good for me (DVD buyer)...bad for people forking out money to see him in the meantime.

Maybe he'll get his cock out, that would be pretty funny.

Good thing I'm seeing Out of England 2 next month (volcano permitting, I guess) instead of Science. He's afraid of religious people over here, so Noah's Ark is out. And we have no clue who Amanda Holden in, so that's out.

Aww, it's just one man's opinion, innit? Form your own after you see it.

Lmfao.
I will wait for the DVD, always.
Seeing a hero like this (I know it's stupid), is just so likely to be a let down.

Yeah, but you don't fill wembley arena by attracting hardcore fans, most of the people who saw Fame or this tour were probably casual fans and therefore idiots and therefore will probably lap up Science, in spite of its shoddy thrown-together-for-the-sake-of-a-show material.

I love Ricky. I admire him hugely for what he has done. I am in the process of writing comedy material at the moment, with a view to achieving even a tenth of the comedy excellence he has. I wouldn't bad-mouth him. I hope I become a stand-up one day. I adore comedy - to be a "purveyor of mirth" (as Jethro put it) would be a dream.
However, I do think he has a tendency to make his work seem a little more sophisticated than they are. Particularly the films, which contained "high concepts", which weren't particularly "high". So when you see one of his works, you're always likely to be underwhelmed. I don't understand why he does it.

And yet, he's always very coy and undermines the podcasts/audiobooks/radio shows, which are (apart from The Office) his greatest creation. This is where he is himself, ad-libbing and being funny without airs and graces or scripts. He's a delight in interviews and a delight on the podcasts - because he's BEING Ricky Gervais. He's doing what he does best. His stand-ups and films require artificial personae and concepts which are alien to his natural cheek, charm and wit. That's why they'll never be as good as the audiobooks, or The Office (which though contained a persona, David Brent, also contained much of Ricky's ad-libbing and natural wise, observant humour). You can tell when Ricky is straying from his natural line of humour ('Fame' slightly, 'Ghost Town', 'Invention of Lying) and it doesn't work. They're too obvious.

One message for the brilliant Ricky is this: KEEP IT REAL. Make loads of comedy characters, explore lots of wonderful themes in his standup - but keep them congruous with the deeply observant, SUBTLE, cutting Gervais humour. And you'll never get a bad review again.

But what do I know?
