If you're a loser and don't read about Steve's Stand up Performances, you might not know that Binda and I met Steve two weeks ago when we saw him do a show at Warwick Uni -
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4953&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=105Anyway, last night we went to see him again :D - this time in Cambridge. We got there at 8pm on the dot because of traffic and were told by a grumpy woman that we wouldn't be sitting together because seats aren't allocated. So when we got in there, there was one spare seat on the front row, and one a few rows back. But after a bit of moving around we both managed to squeeze on the front row. We couldn't believe our luck!
He had two support acts again, one was the same (Stephen Carlin) but the other guy was different and absolutely hilarious! Stephen Carlin is also great, i'd see either of them on their own! Anyway we got spoken to a bit by both of them because we were on the front row, and then there was the interval and of course we didn't move in case someone nabbed our seats!
So eventually Steve came on!! Wearing the same as he was before actually. And he saw us straight away and said 'Not in the front row, surely!' and then he said to the audience 'There's two girls down here with tshirts' at which point we moved so he could see where he'd signed them and he said 'Oh yes that's right, you came before.........its much the same.....remember how mediocre it was last time???' and then he said 'Well, as they already know... (and then launched into it!!)
The first ten minutes or so was pretty much the same as the Warwick show, but then at least half was different stuff!! He spoke about the Elvis faking his own death thing (there has to be shit involved) , the cleaner wearing his shoes (he got some girl out from the audience to literally re-enact the moment which was pretty funny) - she got to wear his shoes!! haha. then obviously there was other stuff about pulling women which he's told before, and the baftas and globe bit but it was still hilarious despite hearing it lots before!!
At one point, just before he was miming having sex, he said 'I bet you weren't expecting this in Cambridge were you, were you expecting some poetry??' I can give you some poetry if you like? And yes you know what's coming - a LIVE rendition of The Windhover by Gerald Manley Hopkins! Fantastic.
I can't remember loads more details about the show, well I probably could but it's getting late! He didn't do quite as long as last time I dont think, but afterwards off we went to try and find the Stage Door of course. Again we had problems with staff being deliberately awkward, and also a huge padlocked gate round the back of the theatre didnt help. but then binda recognised the car that they had last time (we're honestly not stalkers) so we waited there. There were two lads there too who were lovely and had also listened to all the xfm shows but aren't on the forum who we chatted to. And it was only about 5mins before they came out, but Steve seemed to be heading towards the car and he was quite a way away and it was dark (obviously) so we were kind of waving to get his attention.......but then he did walk over to say hello :D
He said to us 'Guys....you've got to stop doing this!!' and I said 'this is the last time, honest!!' The lads then shook his hand (through the big gates) and i said i felt like i was in prison (quite appropriate really!!). Anyway I asked for another photo and he said of course, at which point the gates were opening anyway so the boys took a photo for us, and then we took one for them. Then one of the lads asked if he had a personal facebook and he said no and i said 'you should listen to the steve show, then you'd know these things!' to which steve replied 'yes but not everyone can archive all the shows and listen to them over and over again (how did he know!!) haha. but he was laughing when he said it, thankfully!! and then i asked if this weeks show was a pre-record because we knew Rufus was getting married and he said he wasn't doing it so I said the website was wrong (its since been updated!!!) and we said we're glad because we're going to Reading to seek out new music! and he laughed and said good. and then we asked if he'd listened to our cd and he said not yet but it was in his car, but then he showed us a bag he had in his hand which he said was all the new music he had to listen to! but we said he should listen to ours because it was good :D haha.
and that was about it really, we said bye or whatever and then we left!!
