Etc etc etc. If you haven't heard this band, get busy. They write the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Can you recommend an album for me to start with? I really like what I've heard so far.

I'd recommend you start with In Absentia, then their latest, Fear of a Blank Planet. Then move on to Deadwing, followed by Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream.

A lot of their earlier stuff isn't really my thing, but they have been around for 20 years and have really evolved in that time.

Plenty of their songs are heavier than the "beautiful songs" i just mentioned. Other pretty/sad ones worth mentioning: Sentimental, Heart Attack in a Lay By, Where We Would Be, Pure Narcotic, Mellotron Scratch, Shesmovedon, Trains.

Can't speak highly enough of this band—my favourite by miles for several years :)

Respect Ike... sorry if I've hijacked this thread with the P-Tree. I can't help myself.

I was reading about 'em last night, about how they have evolved an' that, so I imagine I'll only like certain eras too. I'll have a download an' that. Cheers.

If you like what you've heard so far, I'd suggest you'll most enjoy stuff from Stupid Dream onwards. Stupid dream and Lightbulb Sun are rock, with poppy overtones, and they've gradually moved towards progressive metal in their later albums, which are also awesome.

don mclean - american pie.

i love listening to this song.

he has never explained what the song is about, it does have heavy references to buddy hollys death, but wether the whole song is about him or not is debateable.

either way, without thinking of whatever references, it is a beautiful song still.

he has never said that. parts of the song are about that, but some parts are about other people, they reckon janis joplin is referenced in there, mick jagger etc. but he has never confirmed or denied any of it.

also i dont believe its ALL about the plane crash.
