You favorite video/computer game soundtracks

Postby Morden Shadow » Sun 29 Aug, 2010 8:41 pm

I've been an avid fan of electronic music for a number of years and was always impressed (as a kid) at the quality of the tunes produced on fairly basic computers and consoles of the past (C64, Amiga, ST, SNES etc...)

As the machines have become ever more powerful, the music has been done by full orchestras or has featured current bands. But i have always liked it when game music was a genre all of it's own.

Classics like Chris Hulsbecks 'Turrican' come to mind.

What are the faves among members here?

Have to say I'm much more a fan of the more film-like modern soundtracks of today. The GTAs are obvious picks for soundtracks, but their inbred cousin Red Dead Redemption's original soundtrack is soup-perb.

Best soundtrack for me is Vice City. Full of awesome songs.

The GTA ones aren't so much soundtracks as compilation tapes though.

For me gotta be Super Mario 64. Wonderful and weird.

Here's the best of em

also check out OverClocked ReMix, a website where people remix classic gaming themes in a variety of styles.

Again, my favourite from there

Used to have this as a ring tone a few years back, reminds me of my youth playing this game on the Megadrive.
