There were probably 4-5 shows, Claire Sturgess hosted at least one, no recordings have ever been found.

Is there any "hearsay" about the content? What was Karls first words? Who invited him to speak?

I think there was an incident where he forgot to switch on the microphones they talk about.
"Do you want a sandwich? Here's a sandwich". And then next year "Can I have a sandwich?" "What happened to your brother?" "He died."

I don't think there was ever any actual recorded discussion about that or proof that it happened.

Just one jokey comment Ricky makes about Karl's producing skills "he's remembered to switch the microphones on", or something. Doesn't mean to imply Karl once DID forget to switch them on.

Unless he did.

That was information passed down from the Pilki forefathers of yesteryear (2006) who heard the very show.

When they find out that Karl's quiz is a rip off from Simon Mayo.

I'm going to e-mail Richard and tell him I agree.

Hey, I was wondering what became of the plan to send Karl floating up in the air with some helium balloons. Seems they just dropped the idea at some point late in season 1 or between the first and second season?

Never been mentioned since... But some of us are holding on for this idea to finally come to fruition in An Idiot Abroad 2....

It was only when re-listening to Series 1 that I noticed how low Karl's mic is. He's barely audible if you're listening outdoors or somewhere noisy.

P.S. This post puts an end to my year-and-a-bit of lurking. Hi.

Welcome ColmDawson.

And yeah, Karl is way too quiet in the first series, which is handy when you're driving and listening to the shows, turn the speakers up to hear Karl speaking... Then Ricky lets out a piercing shriek of a laugh.

We did have remastered versions where Karl is made louder, but they had to come down with the other downloads, COS THE REGIME DON'T LIKE IT.

A bit of compression or limiting maybe? It's not that big a problem, but you could probably do it with Audacity.

Just been going through the Series 1 episodes for the first time. They're so great. Ricky and Karl discovering Karl's foibles, ways and childhood stories for the first time is amazing. Hearing the first time about the horse in the house is brilliant, it lasts about 4 links!

It's amazing to see the "birth" of Karl like this. There's this great moment when he says "me teacher told me i'd never fly high" or something and later that day I was watching An idiot abroad with him doing the wingwalking, pretty cool haha
