Mental and genius in equal doses, that.

30 second snippet of that new Lou Reed / Metallica collaboration album....

.......Hmmmm.

Based on that tiny segment, I can't say I'm a fan so far. That spoken vocal bit by Lou Reed just doesn't sit right at all with the riffs going on behind it. That last bit when Hetfield starts singing, that sounds alright... But overall, meh, it sounds like something off the Load/Reload albums, which were Metallica's weakest in my opinion (more so than St Anger). Still I'll hold off full judgement 'til I hear the whole thing, but I'm not expecting much. Which is a shame because I fucking loved Death Magnetic and can't wait for the next proper Metallica album...

That did indeed sound shit. Wasn't expecting a lot in fairness.

I hate the name and the artwork that goes with it, also. "Lulu"

I can't help but feel like we're being trolled by Metallica.

"Cheat on Me" – 11:26
"Frustration" – 8:33
"Little Dog" – 8:01
"Dragon" – 11:08
"Junior Dad" – 19:28

Also, the lengths of these songs is infuriating. They'd have to be exceptional to keep ones attention for 8 minutes let alone 11 and 19 minutes.

Aye, I've nothing against long songs at all, but they need to be that length for a good reason, not just to drag on longer than necessary; I think that's where a lot of St Anger went wrong, most of the songs were a good 2 or 3 minutes longer than they needed to be.

So far all there is to go on is the album title and artwork, a few track names and running times, and a 30 second preview.

I'm gonna reserve my judgement until I've heard the whole thing. I like that they seem to be just cutting loose and having fun though, with someone they greatly admire. A lot of their career they've been pretty insular, I have a feeling I'm gonna enjoy this album, just cause it'll be a breath of fresh air.

Alright then, here's the whole thing.

I think it's fair to say at this stage this should definitely not be looked at or compared as a new "Metallica" album, it's an entirely different beast altogether and I think it's unfair and pointless for those that are slating this for not being a good Metallica song, when it's clear this isn't Metallica's new thing, they've got a new album planned for next year, this is something else.

With all that in mind however, I'm still not a massive fan of this.... Musically it's quite uninteresting and simple, and it's not amazing lyrically either... From what it seems, this is more a concept album that needs to be listened to in full to fully appreciate it, hopefully this isn't one of the best tracks on the album.
