The somber music, the interviewer, the over-dramatization of Derek receiving sweatpants yet again. To me, it was making fun of how seriously those types of shows treat what in actuality are pretty trivial and/or silly subjects. It seems more promising when thought of as a mockumentary following Derek’s exodus from his grandmother’s house than it does as a regular sitcom following his madcap adventures about town as he falls about in wells and befriends a less-than-gracious Johnny Depp.
If I put on my heavily-Gervais-tinted glasses I guess I can see where you're coming from. But, for the sake of argument, if that is the case then it doesn't need to be done. Everything that needed to be said/done mockumentary-wise was perfected in The Office.
I don't want to speak too soon about something I haven't seen, but I enjoy Ricky and Steve's work for a certain reason and the premise of this show seems so far away from the kind of thing I expect from them.
I think I would take 'Brain Jail' over this.
