I completely agree

Hollywood Reporter wrote:"You hired me last year knowing what you'd get, then you fired me when you got it. Well, this year you get what you truly wanted. And you definitely get what you deserve." Cheeky, that. Oh, you clever, clever bastard. Well played, Ricky Gervais. You got the Globes but good.

How exactly does one fire a person after they've done their agreed job? What a load of bollocks.

Interestingly enough, most tabloids here in Finland went with the angle that Gervais was as shocking as in the years before. They even put links to his "shocking" monologue... It goes to show that, for most people, it really didn't matter how Gervais performed. People hear what they want to hear. I guess it was okay, but I know I and most people here groaned at his topical "Justin Bieber's a virgin" material etc.

Based on the chat log on the illegal video stream I watched the show, a lot of people seemed to love everything Ricky did or said. I think his recent twitter antics have gained him a fairly big following of people who just want to be on the "shock" bandwagon and love dwarves vomiting on their cocks (the irony of Ricky having a go at Bridemaids for its lowbrow sink shitting humour).

Is it possible for a skit to be prophetic?

The spoof (which contrasts the Ricky Gervais hype as controversial and outrageous with the pretty lame performance) didn't make sense and didn't have a point... until after this year's Golden Globes.

I don't think he was actually having a go... He seemed to genuinely like the movie
If I was listening to me on the radio, I wouldn't be able to say, "oh, he's a...", ya know? And slag me off an' that, 'cause I don't know what I look like, and I quite like that.

Definitely agree. There was no master plan all along; Ricky just wants to feel back in that elite club of famous people so he wouldn't risk a performance like last year's amid so much negative media attention already directed at him recently.

Ah, but there's something clever afoot when you think about Gervais' underwhelming performance. Think about it. Think still more. And now consider this: Ricky Gervais just Punk’d the Globes. He exacted revenge for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association making such a stink last year and taking the moral high ground, lambasting him for being cruel and petty, a bitter outcast comic among real actors and stars. It could be that Gervais' skin really is that thick and he didn't suffer their angry arrows. Or it could be that when the Globes realized it really did need Gervais because controversy breeds ratings and ratings keep you viable, that Gervais plotted his revenge.
And Sunday night he took it. He wasn't merciless. He wasn't outraged. Hell, he didn't even seem very involved or even committed. It’s as if he said, "You hired me last year knowing what you'd get, then you fired me when you got it. Well, this year you get what you truly wanted. And you definitely get what you deserve."
Cheeky, that. Oh, you clever, clever bastard. Well played, Ricky Gervais. You got the Globes but good.

That is the shittest thing I have ever read.

That's true, what I meant was, I thought Ricky was making a jibe at lowbrow comedy in general - not at the actual movie or the actress. I probably I read into it more than what it was though (my earlier point about people want to hear what they want to hear :P). I guess I'm just so disappointed with LTS that I look for opportunities to mock it.

That E video is kinda ironic as pretty much everytime Ricky was on screen they would either cut him out or cut some of his stuff with mainly Kardashian adverts.

So, I'm the only person here who enjoyed Ricky's bits (not like that) at the globes?

It wasn't ground breaking comedy but it's not exactly the easiest platform to be on -- hosting an awards do and trying to fit in a quick joke here and there. I personally can't think of anyone else who would do it sooo much better than Ricky. People, off the top of my head, who would come close would be Stephen Colbert or John Stewart but...... :/. Maybe Zack Ghalagstehskus would be a good shout...

As much as I love Zach Galifianakis his comedy away from playing a fat retard in movies is pretty abstract. Sort of makes me want to see him host it all the more, but it would be a complete shambles lol

Is it just me or does Ricky saying 'Nervous? Don't be. This isn't about you.' make the otherwise mediocre appearance that bit more interesting?

I think he's hitting his career-teenage rebellious phase.

I laughed a lot. I thought he did just fine, & his performance l was very close to what I expected. He didn't seem comfortable up there, however.

As I type, Ricky has made my local news. They ended the show with it. About how he said he wouldn't do it again. Nothing out of context, I'm proud to say.
