Oh dear.

I've been here for a loooongg time. Longer than this account was made. I've been here since before that member (I think his name was Paul?) died. I can't remember completely. Long enough to have been a fan for a few solid years. His obsession with his twitter sheep, his shots at this forum, and his shoddy work for the past years are really disappointing. We can be negative here but we still enjoy some of his work.

I can see how he would feel like he's being attacked after LTS. Because he is. I have no idea what the hell went on from creating amazing work like the Extras Christmas Special to that recycled animated HBO animated cartoon to hosting the Golden Globes multiple times (even though he hasn't been nominated for his own direct writing for 10 years), to Night at the Museum a few times, to Ghost Town, to convoluted shit like The Invention of Lying. If any of those things didn't already make me feel like he was totally losing what he tried so hard to capture with The Office and Extras I wouldn't have been so harsh on LTS. And that's NOT taking to account his blog posts and twitter posts. I think his constant hate-mongering attitude and his love for the 'twonks' on twitter turned me off just enough too.

How many of those people on twitter have actually seen and OWN Ricky's entire body of work? How many of them buy his Flanimal books and script books and even his girlfriend's novels too? How many of them listen and post about his new interviews as they come up? How many of them rewatch and dissect and discuss The Office and Extras and even his stand-up over and over? How many of them have transcribed his legendary conversations with Karl word-for-word? How many of them actually think about what he says and what he does? I know a shit ton of people here that fall under a few of those categories. Probably not that much on twitter though. They know how to say "I luv u Ricky" and "Ur so misunderstood Ricky" and "Offense is taken not given". So they're his real fans.

He seems to love blind praise so that's alright. You don't like criticism. We've known that for a long time (losing that Sony award still probably stings). It's pretty sad to see him stoop to those levels of immaturity just because we don't all scream LOLMIDGETS!!!!111 about his recent work though. Oh well.

He doesn't owe any of us anything but he's fucking unlikeable for someone I once considered my favourite comedian. I might be a nerd on the internet but he's a 50 year old man creating trollish 'fake forum graphics' to insult forum users on his blog. He should take some personality lessons from Louis CK.

I think if he had JUST done his recent works as they are, there would be no where near as much negativity on this board. It's his responses to criticism, his militant atheism, juvenile crap like his forum parody, and his seemingly new persona in some interviews that seems to get to everyone. That's why there's very little negativity towards Steve, even though he co-wrote LTS. Many people didn't really like Steve's stand-up either, but the comments against it were much more mild.
If I was listening to me on the radio, I wouldn't be able to say, "oh, he's a...", ya know? And slag me off an' that, 'cause I don't know what I look like, and I quite like that.

Christ, this has sort of exploded today, hasn't it? I think that graphic he did of a forum says a lot though. Mainly that he thinks a 'fan' is someone who irrevocably supports somebody regardless of whether or not it's any good. The trouble is, that doesn't make a good forum. To illustrate, here's Ricky's ideal forum:

User1: Ricky's good isn't he?
User2: Yep. I like The Office.
User1: Me too. Have you seen Extras?
User2: Yep. Genius, wasn't it?
User1: Too right. Now he's done a show called Life's Too Short.
User2: Oh man, my sides were splitting at the washing machine scene.
User1: Gosh. It's totally taken away my prejudices about dwarves.
User2: Too right.

It's not interesting to universally like stuff. It's better to have the openness of discussion in this forum. With something like LTS, we could easily have had a blind love for it across the board, but we were honest about our opinions and we discussed it in the same way we would discuss a hit. It's shows we aren't sycophantic, but we certainly aren't hateful either. I like that.

But anyway, he's giving us some stick, and let's face it, we wouldn't be RSK fans if we couldn't put up with that. Let's be happy he's reading the boards though, and maybe one day he'll realise that when your own fanbase largely dislikes something you do, it might've been your fault.
"Do you want a sandwich? Here's a sandwich". And then next year "Can I have a sandwich?" "What happened to your brother?" "He died."

Agree with most of Nicholls post (the Extras Christmas special was probably the pinnacle of his career, but what's wrong with trolling Hollywood by hosting the Globes or playing a small part in Night of the Museum? Judging from the bloopers from that movie, he had a blast)

Just in case anyone hasn't noticed, a suspiciously Ricky-esque post just appeared in Ricky Steve & Karl. So he was upset enough to JOIN THE FORUM and complain.

I dunno, I liked it. Not really for Ricky's part though. It was whimsical and amusing.

Well, there's no real way of knowing who it is (though his language is similar to Ricky's), and he didn't really "complain" as such. His blog post was much worse in every way possible, in my opinion.

If that really is Ricky (personally I think it's just some opportunistic troll using stuff from that rubbish photoshop thing on the blog) he needs to get a grip.

It's either Ricky or a very clever troll. We're on the Internet, so it's likely to be the latter, but if it turns out to be the former then that thread is already legendary.

Is now a good time to beg that people don't start jerking off and spewing useless semi-insulting jizz at the notion they might actually be having a direct bit of banter with Gervais?

Just be courteous and represent the forum well, even if it's only another new member.
Don't do it.
