I think our general distaste towards the animated series was almost solely because the material was recycled. If it's new material, I will almost certainly really enjoy the 4th series.

Unless it annoys you aesthetically (loltheylooklikeFlinstones)... but surely that shouldn't matter, that's not the show's value proposition
Ricky: What do you mean, they've got a chicken with teeth? What the FFF - what do you mean there's a chicken with teeth!

Karl: Sounds mad, dunnit.

Recycling wasn't the problem at all for me (if it were I'd hate a lot of RSK's stuff). I don't really like the animation because the visuals are distracting and unfunny. It's like underlining every joke or funny moment with a diarrhoea-filled pen. I too will just rip the audio, or download the accompanying podcasts if they're out at the same time.

I prefer them with the animation. I think it adds something.

I prefer them too, the animation's really well done and funny. Especially the fight in the toilets, the animation greatly improves that.

Nah, the animation is for people with no imagination.

Ones recorded especially for it might be alright though.

Recording for the sake of animations is a weird one ... the shows are supposed to just be people having a chat, and the best part about the XFM shows was how spontaneous they were. Recording for animations would generally suggest to me a high level of scripted-ness, which could be bad.

Still, a change from the norm is welcome, and I'm looking forward to it.
If I was listening to me on the radio, I wouldn't be able to say, "oh, he's a...", ya know? And slag me off an' that, 'cause I don't know what I look like, and I quite like that.

I don't think it'll be too different. The animated series always seemed like something that they didn't have a lot of bother with, just agreed on it and somebody else went and did all the animation, and then RSK promoted it a bit. Should hopefully just be normal audio recording, although maybe with a somehow even more forced focus on trying to get Karl to say silly things, or guffawing loudly and mocking him every time he says even a word.

Christ, I really don't try to make my posts sound this miserable and cynical, it just happens. I'm quite excited for the new material, honest.
If you didn't spend so much time squeezing his head, and eating pies, we might get something done!

I'm looking forward to the animation.
I like them, I don't think they're the prettiest of animations, and I have plenty of imagination, but when you want to unwind, and have something to stare at whilst listening to the audio, they're a good solution.

I think they are the prettiest of animations and they for some reason help me understand what they say since my brain cant do that as good with just hearing the audio, is something I have noticed

Well then that's another reason why the animations are good!
If they can help aid people along to whats happening, then it can only be a good thing. :)

Some things are best left to the imagination

Wait, season 3 is premiering this year. Season 4 isn't even coming out before 2013. So we still got a year to wait for new material. Blah.

Week two hundred and ten - March 2012

As you know the third series of The Ricky Gervais Show returns to HBO on April 20th.

I don't have a date for the UK airing yet, but it will obviously be this year and the DVD for series 2 will be released around the same time.

Anyway, here are some lovely clips from the new series to whet your appetite...

[clip 1]
[clip 2]
[clip 3]

Spent about 20 minutes on the phone the other day to Karl, by the way, trying to explain (with my limited quantum physics) the big bang.

He had called me because he said his head hurt thinking about what happened before the big bang happened. I said, "nothing". He didn't accept this (which is not an unreasonable response to be honest.)

Eventually he just blurted out, "Space must have always been here." I laughed and said I've got to go now.

After the phone call my head hurt.

I sent him this youtube clip.

The next day I said "Did you watch that octopus clip? Isn't it amazing?"

He said, "It is amazing but then again, it's got fuck all else to do. It's like Jon Culshaw. If I just sat around all day doing that one thing I'd be good at impressions."

A perfect response as usual.

I haven't shown him this yet... My ghost-hunting cat fighting some ectoplasm.
