I agree with this. It's been covered elsewhere on the forum, but it still baffles me whenever I hear them whinge about it. They aren't bad films, they just may not be everyones cup of tea so to speak.

I reckon Steve loves them, but he's covering his tracks by slagging the series off. Just like when he calls GTA "Auto Grand Theft" or something. It's like when you fancy a girl when you're a teenager and you pretend you cant remember her name when she comes up in conversation with your mates.

I absolutely agree with this. I still get wound up whenever I hear them go on about it. I reckon Steve does love it... he's just playing puppy dog with Ricky. I wonder what they would say about it now...

Similar vein, it comes from a conversation about LOTR, but when Ricky says he hates Harry Potter, saying he wants to punch his face in, then about 30 seconds later, when steve says "But HP is over in about 1.5 hours", ricky just goes "Oh is it? I haven't seen it, so..."

I've seen it and I'm not a fan, but you can't have that much venom for something you haven't seen.

But there's no sense to where he's coming from. LOTR isn't a bad film series. You can dislike it, but from a film-making viewpoint, it's a technical marvel. I don't think the star of Tooth Fairy can really throw around accusations about how bad other films are.

Not havin a go at you mate, I just honestly don't know where the venom comes from. I reckon Steve DID like it at school and got bullied for it, now he's pissed that everyone likes it.

My point about Avatar was, whilst the story was utter toss (seen it all before category toss), everyone seemed to love the film because of how it looked. LOTR is no different. You have be bored with story, fine, it's all down to taste, but I don't think Steve's justified when he says the films are bad. They aren't bad, the cgi is brilliant, as are the actors and the details. Besides which, I'm still suspicious that Steve DOES like it, since he, once again, intentionally gets Frodos name wrong, even though he's sat through all three films.

I actually like LOTR, the books are sick and the films live up to the sickness in both story and CGI I reckon.

I didn't fancy going into several paragraphs to get my point across :P Trying to do an essay right now, this would be distracting.

I like the films, I have them on blu-ray. They're not as good as everyone said they were when they got released, but they're enjoyable. I was one of the people who dismissed it early on because of the hype.
