ike wrote:It was a one-off in that there was only one episode, and it was a pilot in that it was a pilot episode for a potential full series. Therefore it was a one-off pilot, innit.

I was under the illusion is was an off-air pilot, and they were always doing a series. They chose to air the pilot in the end most likely to gauge the public's reaction to Ricky playing a character that he could potentially (and thus channel 4) get flack for, especially in the light of mong-gate.
Just my opinion, mind.

Les Dennis has revealed that he will play a key role in the forthcoming Life’s Too Short special.
He said that Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant were writing the new show around himself, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson – aka ‘Barry from EastEnders’.
Although all three made cameo appearances alongside Warwick Davis in the original series, this time the trio – who also all appeared in Extras – will be at the heart of the story.
Speaking on the Peacock And Gamble Podcast from the Edinburgh Fringe, Dennis said: ‘I’m just going to tell you guys something we can now talk about, which I’m really excited about, is that myself, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson will be working for Ricky and Stephen again next year.
‘You know Life’s Too Short, the series? They are doing a special next year and they have written it around us. We are going to film in next February.’
He said the pair had written an ‘hilarious’ script for them.
The hour-long special is expected to air in the spring of 2013 – and is likely to be the swansong for the series.
