Game Description

"Pilkluedo" is a game designed for Pilkipedia (though it can be played on any message board, really) that is basically an adaptation of Cluedo (Clue in the US). The premise is that Mr. Boddy, singer for the New York punk band Fear, was killed for his groceries which were kept in a phone booth in Wales. Players use deductive reasoning to work out whodunnit, where, and with which weapon. The player, or team, which correctly determines these is declared the WINNER and receives a picture of the cover of Ladder 49.

Weapons, Suspects, and Locations

There are six potential weapons, six suspects, and nine "rooms" (forum locations) in which the crime may have occurred:

WEAPONS: 1) Bin Lid 2) Champagne Cork 3) Ice Arrow 4) Mr. Freeze Pop 5) Chucked Slate 6) Golf Buggy

SUSPECTS: 1) Ralph Littleton 2) Gerald Preston 3) Lisa Shufflebotham 4) The Ciabatta Bros. 5) Squiddy Patel 6) Martin Wells

LOCATIONS: 1) News 2) The Vault 3) RSK 4) A&F 5) Watercooler 6) General 7) Screening Room 8) Soundboard 9) Sport

Gameplay

BEGINNING:

Players are divided up into teams of six, each representing one of the suspects. However, fewer than six can play.

There are 21 "cards" (PNG files, actually). The moderator selects one weapon card, one suspect card, and one location card. This determines the facts of the murder. The other cards are then randomly dealt to the other teams via PM. (In other words, all the members of Team Six will get three cards.)

Team members are allowed to confer, publicly or privately, to whatever extent they wish.

ENTERING A ROOM:

The moderator will let all players know, in the forum, in which order the teams play. Lisa Shufflebotham always goes first.

To enter a room, a team will be asked a question pertaining to RSK-related material. For the purposes of the inaugural game, questions will be limited to Xfm shows and podcasts and will be accessible to anyone with a reasonable knowledge. They will also be multiple-choice. It is acceptable for team members to confer before giving an answer.

EXAMPLE: Team Preston wishes to enter the Sport Room. The moderator might ask "what did Karl think the evil shadow in Boston-or-somewhere was doing that got the town fed up?" If they choose the option "pushing people off bikes", they will be allowed into the room. If they choose "teasing those kids who went to your school with the big heads and the webbed hands and they didn't hang around with each other and they weren't related", they would be wrong and lose their turn.

MAKING A SUGGESTION:

This is basically hypothesizing "whodunnit". Once in a room, a member of the team will say "I suggest that it was (suspect) in (your current room) with (weapon). Once this happens, the team representing the suspect is now in the room where the suggestion was made.

DISPROVING THE SUGGESTION:

At this point, it is important to note the ORDER. The next team to play will look at their PNGs and see if they can disprove the suggestion. If they can, they choose ONE of these and reveal it to the team making the suggestion. This is done by

-> sending a PM to the moderator, who in turn

-> sends a PM to the team making the suggestion

It is especially important that one does not post the refutation of the suggestion in the thread, as that gives every team an advantage.

Special clause since chinchilla will be playing: if a team can disprove a suggestion, they must do so. Even if they think they'd have a strategic advantage in refusing to do so, it actually wouldn't work. So if the team refuses to fork over the information, the moderator will do it on their behalf.

If the first team with a chance to disprove the suggestion cannot do so, it goes to the next team, and so on. If nobody can disprove the suggestion, the team can either end their turn or...

J'ACCUSE!

If a team believes they've worked out all the details of the whodunnit, they say "J'accuse (suspect) in (your current room) with (weapon)." That team will then be shown the details.

If they are right, they win.

If they are wrong, they are no longer allowed to make suggestions, but they are still in the game and can disprove suggestions.

DOORBLOCKING:

Since a team must be in the room they wish to make a suggestion from, if another team is already in this room, they may attempt to Block The Door. In order to do this... a) When the team attempting to enter indicates in the thread their desire for entry, the other team must immediately issue a Doorblock Challenge by typing DOORBLOCK CHALLENGE. b) The entry question will be posted in the thread, and each team will PM the answer to the moderator. c) The first team to correctly answer the question wins the Doorblock Challenge.

Special Comments on Suggestions

When you make a suggestion, you may, if you wish, name one or more of the cards that you hold in your own hand. You might want to do this to gain information or to mislead your opponents.

You may, if you wish, make a suggestion and j'accuse on the same turn.

You may make only one suggestion after entering a particular room. To make your next Suggestion, you must either enter a different room or, sometime after your next turn, re-enter the room that you most recently left.

If yours was the Suspect transferred, you may, on your next turn, do one of two things:

-> Move from the Room in one of the usual ways OR make a suggestion for that room.

-> If you decide to make a suggestion, you do NOT have to answer an Entry Question.

There is no limit to the number of Suspects or Weapons that may be in one Room at one time.
