Derek Acorah

Derek Acorah is a well-known, controversial psychic medium and television personality in the UK. He has worked extensively in private readings, television, radio and theatre shows throughout the UK, Europe and USA. In 2005, Acorah came under fire for channelling the departed spirits of fictional characters. He became famous in England due to a televison programme on British cable channel Living called "Most Haunted". Acorah claims to have a ghost called Sam who is his link to the spirit world.

Karl Pilkington has met Acorah and upon doing so asked him to "Tell me something weird". Acorah went on to tell Pilkington a story about a cursed tankard, or "mug" as Karl refers to it, which killed anyone who touched it. The story was met the traditional skepticism of Merchant and Gervais who said Karl was "the only mug in this story".
