Not too much less geeky than Dwight

Rainn Wilson plays Dwight Schrute, an eccentric and arrogant paper salesman in The Office.

Background

Wilson was born in Seattle, Washington. Wilson has a theatre background from Tufts University and the University of Washington and has taught acting classes. He holds an MFA from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts and was a member of The Acting Company.

Career

Along with his role on The Office, Wilson has appeared as the unusual Arthur Martin, the androgynous intern at Fisher & Diaz Funeral Home on HBO's Six Feet Under. He has also appeared in NUMB3RS, Entourage, and Monk. His film credits include Almost Famous, Sahara, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, and The Last Mimzy. On February 24, 2007 Rainn Wilson hosted Saturday Night Live, becoming the second cast member from NBC's "The Office" to host (Steve Carell being the first). Critics praised his episode as one of the best of the season.

Wilson has his own blog on NBC's website called Schrute-Space, where he writes in character (as his The Office character, Dwight). Time Magazine's Joel Stein calls Wilson's portrayal of Dwight "hipster alternative cluelessness," seen both in the show and on his blog.

Personal Life

Wilson currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, fiction writer Holiday Reinhorn, their young son, Walter, and their two pit bulls, Oona and Harper Lee.
