Salem is a city north of Boston, in Massachusetts, best known for its witch trials of 1692. Modern day Salem is a quaint seaside town which stands largely in tribute to those events and to occult happenings today.
On the 24 November 2001 Xfm show, Stephen Merchant talked about his trip to Salem when in the States for a friend's birthday, during which he visited the "Boris Karloff World of Terror". When he wore their 3D glasses, he could not tell the difference between what was actually 3D, and what was a 3D effect from the glasses. It took a short 45 seconds to go through the maze, but since he was at the back of his group, Steve missed out on all the frights.
